House Mouse
Once, I had a mouse
I had a house mouse
Suddenly, my house was a mouse house
Though I felt like a louse
I took matters into my own hands
I caught that mouse
Relieving my house of its mouse
Now, I like my house
Now, it's not a mouse house . . .
Just a house
The Cloud
The dark gray cloud floats overhead, mocking me as it blots out the sun
"Go on, look for the sun, little man," it seems to say
"Look high, look low; look to-and-fro
Look here, look there; look everywhere
You may look, but you will not find
And in the end, you shall lose your mind"
"Look here, Mr. Cloud," I screamed, fist clenched
And then the rain came, leaving me drenched
"A friend have I, name of Nathan J. Pierce
He may not be big, but he's mighty fierce
He'll show you what for, he will oh he will
'Cause from you, you bore, I've quite had my fill"
"You may scream, and you may shout
But with my great wind, I'll blow you about
Bring on your friend, I dare you I say
And he shall live, to regret this day"
So with courage summoned, I started my trek
'Tis my friend who's in danger, so what the heck
"I'm glad you've come," my friend said to me
"Clouds can be mean, they can be fierce
This is a job, for Nathan J. Pierce"
With spirits high, towards the cloud we started
My only fear being, that the cloud had departed
I should not have worried, my friend don't you see
The cloud was still there, no intention to flee
"So you did bring your friend
I thought you would not
This is a battle, you should not have fought"
And the wind started to blow
And the dust started to fly
And wouldn't you know, landed right in my eye
With rage in my heart, I looked to the sky
"Now you've had it
You soon shall see why!"
I looked to my friend, to see his face mad
But instead of being mad, his face looked glad
"Fight not with clouds, high up in the sky
Fight not with clouds, I'll tell you why
A cloud is your friend; he wants to alert us
In times of danger, so nothing will hurt us
He brings forth the rain, he cools the hot earth
And with that rain, that very same rain
'Tis all of us, to whom he gives birth"
I looked at my friend, and then at the sky
Then asked myself this: I asked myself why?
Why hadn't I seen, what had been there to see?
What now was so clear, had been clouded with fear
I smiled to myself, then to Nathan J. Pierce
And then to the cloud, no longer so fierce
The cloud sailed away, with one last thing to say
"Look to the ground, find what's to be found
See what I've done, on this fine Springtime day"
We looked to the ground, where sunlight now shown
And where once was just dirt, a flower had grown
