About
Boppin' Bird Productions is a music production company located in Grand Junction, Colorado. Since its founding in 2001 by Jon Brewer (me) it has grown to epic proportions, and is now the largest company of its kind within a several square block radius.
Beginnings:
I started in the music business at a very young age; within hours of my birth I was an accomplished drummer. It wasn't until the age of thirteen, however, that I recorded professionally: the sessions were at Devonshire Sound Studios in Burbank, CA., and the engineer was Ron Malo. The year was 1971 and we were thrilled to be in a recording studio for the first time.
I was blessed early to work with many extremely talented musicians, including guitarists Mike Landau and Steve Lukather and bassist John Pierce. We all had bands together growing up, produced some great music, and had a hell-of-a good time doing it.
At seventeen, I quit the business to pursue other interests. Music was never far from my heart, however, and thirty-some-odd years later I've returned to my first love.
The Present:
Currently, I'm recording my first CD for Boppin' Bird Productions. The music is something I like to call folk-jazz, though I'm not really sure why. I'll be playing all the instruments -- keyboards, guitars, and drums -- and I promise it's going to be damn good or my name isn't J. Warren Van Brauer.
I'm also doing some advertising work -- mostly radio spots, everything from writing copy and composing jingles to voice-over and production -- working with clients here in the studio, and recently had a piece of music in the film Jesus, Mary, and Joey (a.k.a. Welcome Back, Miss Mary). And I continue to write a bit; I've written two novels and a number of short stories, and though none have been published, yet, the day is young.
The Future:
Who knows? I'll keep you posted.
